A Touch of Speed® in partnership with the North Charleston Police Department C.A.P.S, will be hosting its inaugural 6-week track and field training program starting Monday, June 17, 2024, and will end on Saturday, July 27, 2024. This program will be for youth in our community ages 6 to 14. The program participants will practice twice a week. The tentative days would be Monday and Wednesday. The training will take place from 5:00pm to 6:15pm at Lynda Davis Track and Field in North Charleston, SC. The program will be limited to only 50 children. There will be no charge for this program.
The program will be led by Coach Eboni Thompkins-Webber. She is a USATF Level 2 Certified Coach, and a former collegiate athlete. We will also have several volunteers as well to help facilitate the program. The program will offer the following:
- Introduction to all of track and field events except pole vault.
- Introduction to running mechanics.
- Introduction to warm-up and cool down drills
- Importance of stretching and recovery through yoga
- Introduction to proper nutrition for performance
- End of program track meet
Registration
Registration for the training program will open May 20, 2024, and close on June 16, 2024 or once it reaches capacity.
Needs for Training
- Proper running training shoes, if possible. Please no crocs, sandals, or any other open toe shoe.
- T-shirt and shorts
- Young girls should wear proper undergarments
- Sunscreen
- Towel and/or mat
